Of the Nooneys whose literacy was recorded, 92.9% could both read and write, 1.8% could read but not write, and 5.4% could do neither. The figures were much the same for men and women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were Christopher (4), John, James, Joseph and Thomas. For women it was Mary (7), followed by Anne, Delia, Eliza and Elizabeth.

The most common entry on a Nooney's census form was "Scholar"; 23.2% (13) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were domestic servant (10.7%), farmer (10.7%), general labourer (8.9%) and railway / tram worker (3.6%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 16.1% of all Nooneys, followed by domestic service, general labourers and transport.
