For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Tinkler literacy in 1911
Of the Tinklers whose literacy was recorded, 84.6% could both read and write, 3.8% could read but not write, and 11.5% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 87.5% reading and writing against 82.1% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were George (5), James, John, Edward and Joseph. For women it was Mary (5), followed by Margaret, Elizabeth, Annie and Clara.

The most common entry on a Tinkler's census form was "Scholar"; 27.3% (15) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were retired / pensioner (9.1%), farm labourer (7.3%), other maker / factory worker (5.5%) and cook (3.6%). Grouped by sector, retired & pensioners accounted for 9.1% of all Tinklers, followed by agriculture, domestic service and manufacturing & trades.
What religion is Tinkler?
Tinklers were predominantly Roman Catholic (78.2%). The remainder were mostly Anglican (18.2%), Protestant (1.8%) and Quaker (1.8%).
