Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (17.3%), domestic servant (7.7%), general labourer (7.7%) and fisherman (3.8%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 19.2% of all Hauleys, followed by domestic service, general labourers and fishing.
What religion is Hauley?
Hauleys were predominantly Roman Catholic (80.8%). The remainder were mostly Anglican (13.5%), Methodist (3.8%) and Plymouth Brethren (1.9%).
