Inside, sawing machinery remains in place, rusted into stillness, a rare survival for a structure that has otherwise been given over to decay. The corrugated-iron roof still holds, more or less, over rubble sandstone walls, but the timber windows have mostly gone, leaving square-headed openings with sawn timber lintels open to the weather.

The building dates to around 1870, a detached four-bay, two-storey sawmill with a later lean-to addition in corrugated iron tacked onto its north-west side. Its purpose was practical rather than ornamental, likely processing timber felled from the woods nearby, feeding a small local economy that depended on the Galty hills for raw material. It was never a large operation. The scale of the structure suggests a modest concern, serving a specific stretch of countryside rather than any wider trade, and that modesty is part of what makes its survival worth noting: sawmills of this size and period rarely keep both their water wheel and their internal machinery intact, even in ruin.

What remains today is essentially a shell, but a legible one. The rubble sandstone walls, finished with dressed quoins at the corners, still describe the original footprint clearly enough, and the millrace to the south-east elevation, the artificial channel that once directed water onto the wheel, is still traceable on the ground. Anyone interested in how rural industry once ran on nothing more than moving water and timber will find the bones of that story still standing here, unrestored and unexplained, a working mill rendered into a kind of open diagram of itself.
