This oval outcrop, measuring roughly 60 metres north to south and 20 metres east to west, rises four to five metres above the surrounding fertile farmland. Though nature alone shaped this prominent feature, local tradition has persistently identified it as an ancient fort, a belief strong enough to earn it a marking as such on the first edition Ordnance Survey six-inch map.

Despite its fortress-like appearance and commanding position overlooking the river valley, archaeological surveys have found no evidence of artificial fortification on the platform's level summit. The rock outcrop, now heavily overgrown with vegetation, appears to be entirely natural in origin. Its strategic location in prime agricultural land, combined with the sweeping views it offers across the landscape, certainly would have made it an attractive defensive position for early settlers, which may explain why folklore has assigned it military significance.

The site represents one of many examples throughout Ireland where natural features have been woven into local historical narratives. While it may not be the ringfort that tradition suggests, this geological formation remains an intriguing landmark that demonstrates how landscape and legend often intertwine in Irish heritage. The Archaeological Survey of County Donegal, conducted in 1983, officially classified it as an unverified ringfort, acknowledging both the lack of archaeological evidence and the persistence of local belief in its historical importance.
