Promontory fort - coastal, Carrickabraghy, Co. Donegal

This type of coastal fortification was particularly common in Ireland during the Iron Age, when communities built defensive structures on naturally protected headlands that jutted out into the sea. The strategic position would have offered both protection from raiders and commanding views of maritime traffic along this stretch of the Donegal coast.
