Promontory fort - coastal, Gleann Úraí, Co. Donegal

These coastal fortifications were built by taking advantage of natural cliff formations, with defensive walls or banks constructed across the neck of a promontory to create an easily defendable space. The fort at Gleann Úraí would have served as both a stronghold and a lookout point, offering commanding views of the surrounding sea and landscape whilst providing protection for its inhabitants during Ireland's turbulent prehistoric and early medieval periods.
