Holy Sites & Wells
In the townland of Ráith in County Donegal sits a curious relic of Ireland's early Christian period: a bullaun stone.
These distinctive stone basins, hollowed out through centuries of use, can be found scattered across the Irish landscape, though each one tells its own story of local devotion and folk tradition. The depression in this particular stone would have been used for grinding grain or herbs, though many bullauns later became associated with holy wells and healing rituals, with rainwater collected in their bowls believed to cure various ailments.
