Building, Ballynacloghy, Co. Galway

Ballynacloghy is a townland in County Galway that carries, in its very name, a clue worth pausing over.

The Irish "Baile na Cloiche" translates roughly as "townland of the stone" or "settlement of the stone", and somewhere within it stands a structure recorded simply as a building, classified as an archaeological monument but otherwise largely uncharacterised in the public record. That gap between formal recognition and available detail is itself a small curiosity, a placeholder in the landscape waiting to be filled.
