Someone, at some point, took the trouble to enclose it within a carefully constructed drystone wall, the kind of work that speaks to long use and local value rather than passing convenience.

The well is roughly D-shaped in plan, measuring approximately five metres by two and a half metres, with its open face oriented to the west. Drystone construction, which uses no mortar and relies entirely on the careful selection and placement of stone, is a technique with deep roots in the west of Ireland, and when it is described as well-built it suggests a structure made to last. The well sits within a wider field system, meaning it was not an isolated feature but part of a working agricultural landscape. Beside the opening, a concrete water tank was added at some later point, a practical addition that suggests the spring continued to serve a purpose well into more recent times, even as the materials and methods around it changed.
