Mining
In the townland of Meennaraheeny in County Cork, there is a feature that was recorded as a quarry, and then, essentially, questioned out of existence.
It appears in two separate heritage registers, first in 1988 and again in 1998, each time carrying the modest label of quarry. But the evidence gathered around it was never strong enough to confirm that anything of genuine archaeological significance actually stood there, and so it occupies a peculiar category: a place that was noticed, catalogued, and then neither confirmed nor fully dismissed.
