A roughly circular enclosure, around forty metres in diameter, betrays itself only from the air, where the filled-in remains of its fosse, a defensive or boundary ditch dug into the earth, show up as a cropmark, a phenomenon in which buried features cause overlying vegetation to grow at subtly different rates, producing variations in colour or density that become legible in aerial photographs. It was in July 1989 that this particular outline was captured and documented.

What makes the site more intriguing is that this enclosure does not sit alone. It lies within the perimeter of a larger enclosure nearby, and along its western side the two structures actually share a short stretch of the same fosse. That shared boundary suggests a relationship between the two, whether one was added later within an existing settled area, or whether both were in use simultaneously as part of a more complex arrangement of space and land use. Enclosures of this general type are common across Ireland and are often associated with early medieval settlement, though without excavation it is impossible to say with any certainty what activity took place here or precisely when.

The site is not marked or accessible in any conventional sense. Its existence is known almost entirely through that single aerial photograph, and nothing on the surface today would indicate that anything lies beneath. It is the kind of place that rewards the imagination more than the visit, a reminder that the Irish landscape carries an enormous amount of archaeology that remains just out of reach, legible only to cameras pointed downward from the sky on the right summer morning.
