What makes it quietly compelling is precisely that absence: the site is known not through stone or inscription but through the shape of the land and the memory of the people who farm around it.

The triangular area measures roughly 40 metres north to south and 36 metres east to west, its outline suggested more by overgrowth than by any deliberate enclosure. On the eastern edge there is a shallow fosse, a trench-like depression about 0.4 metres deep, and to the west the ground rises slightly. These subtle features, a dip here, a rise there, a thickening of vegetation, are often all that remains when a burial ground has fallen out of formal use and been absorbed back into agricultural land. Such sites are not uncommon in rural Ireland, particularly those associated with early medieval or pre-Famine communities, where the dead might be laid in ground set apart by custom rather than by church authority. Without excavation it is impossible to say who was buried here, or when, but the persistence of local tradition is itself a form of evidence, a way of marking the ground when the physical markers have gone.
