Despite being a well-defined earthwork, surveyors have found no trace of an entrance and no detectable internal features, leaving the question of how it was used, and by whom, genuinely open. Ringforts, or raths, are enclosed farmstead sites typically dating from the early medieval period, roughly the fifth to twelfth centuries, and they are common across the Irish landscape. But most betray at least some evidence of domestic life or a gap in the bank where people and animals came and went. Here, that evidence is simply absent.

The site itself is an oval platform, partly artificial, measuring roughly 27 metres north-northwest to south-southeast and about 19.5 metres east to west. It sits on a gentle northwest-facing slope, with an earthen bank running along the perimeter from the southwest to the northeast and around the southeast. Rather than a uniform enclosure, the site makes use of the natural topography: a steep scarp about two metres high marks the edge where a stream runs to the south, and a similar drop falls away to marshy ground on the eastern side. Beyond the main bank there is an external flat-bottomed fosse, a defensive ditch, roughly 4.7 metres wide and two metres deep, with a further outer bank beyond it to the northwest. That level of earthwork effort suggests the place mattered to whoever built it. Adding another layer of interest, a second ringfort lies just ten metres to the southeast, close enough that the two enclosures must have been related in some way, perhaps part of a single farming settlement or a family compound, though the record does not say.
