Enclosure, Kilcolgan More, Co. Offaly

In the townland of Kilcolgan More, a circular enclosure sits recorded on paper but invisible underfoot.

The site exists, in any meaningful sense, only as a shape drawn on the 1840 edition of the Ordnance Survey six-inch map, the great cartographic project that sent surveyors across every townland in Ireland in the decades following 1824. Whatever once defined this enclosure at ground level, whether an earthen bank, a ditch, or a low ring of stones, has since been ploughed, eroded, or otherwise absorbed back into the landscape. Nothing remains to see.
