That something was once a circular enclosure, the kind of feature that appears across Ireland in many forms, from early medieval farmsteads enclosed by a raised ringfort bank to much older prehistoric boundaries, their original purpose sometimes impossible to recover. Here, the full circle is gone, and what remains is less a monument than a clue.

The enclosure was still legible as a complete circle on the Ordnance Survey map produced between 1841 and 1842, which means it was intact, or substantially so, within living memory of the nineteenth century. By the time the next major survey captured the area in 1914, only a small portion was showing. The intervening decades had seen much of it cleared, most likely as agricultural land was improved and old earthworks were removed to make fields more workable. The surviving section, arch-shaped and roughly ten metres wide, is what escaped that process, though barely. C. Toal's North Kerry Archaeological Survey, published in 1995, recorded it in this diminished state, documenting what had become a fragment of a fragment.

The surviving bank sits in a landscape that has largely moved on around it, and there is little to orient a casual visitor beyond the earthwork itself. The arch of raised ground curves quietly against whatever surrounds it now, its scale domestic rather than dramatic, its significance legible mainly through knowing what the older maps once showed in full.
