The arrangement is easy to overlook if you are not looking for it, but once noticed it raises more questions than the landscape is willing to answer.

The enclosure measures roughly 15.5 metres north to south and 15 metres east to west, making it a tight, near-perfect circle. Its boundary is formed by boulders set contiguously upright, standing about 0.9 metres high on the interior face and somewhat lower on the outside at around 0.7 metres. A number of boulders have been loosely dumped outside the line, suggesting some disturbance at some point, though whether recent or ancient is unclear. Enclosures of this kind, defined by a continuous setting of orthostats (upright stones placed edge to edge or close together), are found across Ireland and can date from the prehistoric period through to the early medieval, when they were used variously as farmsteads, ritual spaces, or animal enclosures. The slight depression of the interior below field level is a detail worth noting; it may reflect centuries of accumulated ploughing and soil movement in the surrounding field, or it may be an original feature of the construction. The presence of the conifers inside complicates any straightforward reading of the space, as planting activity will have disturbed whatever ground archaeology might once have been legible there.
