On the 1940 Ordnance Survey map, a modest earthwork at Carrowmore in County Sligo is marked as "Stone Circle, site of", a designation that turns out to have no real archaeological basis.
The label was almost certainly borrowed from the surrounding landscape: Carrowmore is one of the largest megalithic cemeteries in Ireland, and many of its passage tombs were routinely recorded on maps as stone circles, regardless of their actual form. This particular monument, sitting on flat ground among several of those tombs, picked up the label by proximity rather than by any evidence of standing stones. No previous writer had noted it at all, and it does not appear on the earlier 1837 survey map.
