It is flat-topped rather than rounded, which sets it apart from the stereotypical image of a burial mound, and its dimensions are modest but deliberate: roughly 1.2 metres high, with a top surface spanning about 5.5 metres across and a base stretching more than 11 metres north to south and 12.5 metres east to west. These are the proportions of a mound barrow, a funerary monument of the Bronze Age, constructed from compacted clay and raised over the remains of the dead at a time when such earthworks marked both a burial and a claim on the landscape.

The choice of position is characteristic of the tradition. Barrows of this type were rarely placed at the very summit of a hill; instead, they tend to sit just below the highest point, visible against the skyline from certain directions while remaining grounded in the terrain. Here, views open up to the south and west, while higher ground to the north and east closes off the prospect on those sides. One small anomaly interrupts the otherwise straightforward profile: a secondary mound, around 0.8 metres high and roughly 2.8 metres in diameter, of clay mixed with stones, has been deposited against the south-south-west edge of the main structure. This is almost certainly not prehistoric in origin; the informal description of material being "dumped" against the barrow suggests later agricultural activity, the kind of quiet, incremental interference that accumulates around monuments left standing in working fields over centuries.
