Barrows
In the townland of Annagh in County Clare, a ring barrow sits quietly in the landscape, the kind of monument that most people walk past without quite registering what they are looking at.
A ring barrow is a prehistoric burial mound, typically dating from the Bronze Age, defined by a low earthen or stone bank encircling a central mound or platform. The enclosing ring is what distinguishes it from a simpler mound, and that circular form, when seen from above or in low winter light, can still read clearly in the grass after three or four thousand years.
