Barrows
In a field of improved pasture on a south-east-facing slope in County Tipperary, a faint circular trace in the ground marks a ring barrow, one of the more understated forms of prehistoric funerary monument found across Ireland.
A ring barrow typically consists of a low central mound or platform enclosed by a circular ditch, known as a fosse, and an outer earthen bank. They are generally associated with Bronze Age burial practices, though the burials themselves, if any survive, often leave little visible evidence at the surface after millennia of agricultural activity.
