What survives still carries its essential geometry: a central platform roughly 6.60 metres across and 70 centimetres high, enclosed by a fosse about 2.90 metres wide, and originally ringed by a low outer bank. Before that outer bank was lost, the full diameter of the monument measured 21 metres.

The barrow had already experienced earlier interference. Parts of the west and south sides show disturbance that predates modern agriculture, and the gap in the outer bank is thought not to be an original entrance but the result of some older intervention. The ridge on which it sits is glacial in origin, shaped by ice-age processes, and the elevated position may have been deliberately chosen, as was common with prehistoric funerary monuments. The site was catalogued by researcher Göran Burenhult in 1980 under the designation Structure 26, listed at the time under the placename Knocknahur North, though this was subsequently corrected to Breeoge. Burenhult's survey also recorded phosphate levels across the surrounding area as part of a broader analysis of land use and activity in the region; the values here were only marginally elevated, suggesting the immediate vicinity saw little intensive human activity beyond the monument itself. A more detailed morphological description was later provided by Timoney in 1984, from which the precise measurements of the platform, fosse, and surviving bank are drawn.
