Bridges & Crossings
At Inchimore in County Kerry, a bridge crosses the landscape quietly, carrying the weight of several centuries without much ceremony.
It dates to the post-1700 period, placing it among the many stone crossings that were built across Ireland as road networks gradually extended into more rural and mountainous terrain during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. These structures, often dry-laid or lime-mortared, were practical responses to the challenge of moving people, livestock, and goods across boggy ground and fast-running water, and many have outlasted the roads they once served.
