Building, Roskeen, Co. Mayo

Roskeen, a townland in County Mayo, carries a building on its archaeological record that remains almost entirely undescribed in any publicly available source.

It has been formally catalogued as a structure of note, assigned its place among the monuments of the Irish landscape, and yet the details that would tell you what it actually is, when it was built, and by whom, have not made it into the public domain. That gap is itself a kind of curiosity. Ireland's archaeological inventory runs to tens of thousands of entries, and the overwhelming majority carry at least a line or two of description. A building that resists easy summary tends to be one that does not fit neatly into the usual categories.
