Lift, or rather know to look for, the upper stone and you find a circular hollow ground into the surface, roughly 30 centimetres across and about 8 centimetres deep. This is a bullaun stone, a type of early medieval stone with one or more bowl-shaped depressions whose precise original purpose remains debated, though associations with ritual, healing, and cursing recur throughout Irish tradition. What makes this one particularly worth noting is that it appears to be still in active use, small coins and crosses left by visitors suggesting the site functions, in folk practice at least, as a holy well even without a spring.

The stone itself is an irregular sandstone slab, approximately 0.8 metres by 0.4 metres, with the hollow positioned off-centre on its upper face. It sits within Killeenstouke graveyard, a location whose name folds together the Irish elements for a small church and the place name Stouke. The pairing of bullaun stone with graveyard is not unusual in Ireland; early ecclesiastical enclosures frequently preserved such objects, and the graveyard setting may itself have reinforced the stone's perceived sacred character across successive generations. The covering stone placed over the hollow is a common feature at bullaun sites, sometimes understood as protecting the water that collects there, since rainwater pooling in the depression was often considered to have curative properties.

The stone sits in the south-east quadrant of the graveyard, and the votive objects left there, modest and personal in the way such offerings tend to be, are the clearest sign that whatever continuity of belief surrounds it, it has not been reduced to a mere archaeological curiosity.
