Churches & Chapels
In the townland of Ballydoogan in County Galway, there is a Catholic church recorded as a monument of sufficient historical interest to warrant formal archaeological attention.
That alone sets it apart from the ordinary run of nineteenth-century rural parishes, many of which were built in haste during the decades following Catholic Emancipation in 1829, when the legal restrictions that had long suppressed public Catholic worship were finally lifted and congregations across Ireland began constructing permanent places of worship in earnest.
