The site appears on the 1842 Ordnance Survey six-inch map as a cruciform structure, labelled 'R.C. Chapel', which would suggest a building of some deliberate architectural ambition, a cross-shaped plan being the form associated with more substantial Catholic ecclesiastical construction. By the time anyone came to record it formally, even that was gone.

When the historian Hartnett visited in 1939, he found no masonry at all, only a raised platform measuring roughly 27 metres by 18 metres and standing between 0.3 and 0.6 metres above the surrounding ground. That subtle elevation is often what survives when a building has been robbed of its stone over generations, the compacted debris of foundations and floors producing a low mound that resists the natural flatness around it. Hartnett also noted something worth pausing on: he was told locally that this is believed to be the old parish church of Aglish, and that the ground has never been tilled. The name Aglish derives from the Irish eaglais, meaning church, which suggests a place of worship here of considerable age, well predating the chapel shown on the Victorian map. The fact that the land has reputedly never been ploughed points to a kind of informal preservation, whether from reverence, habit, or both.
