A rath is a roughly circular earthwork enclosure, typically dating from the early medieval period, built as a farmstead and boundary marker. Thousands survive across Ireland, their raised banks and ditches familiar features of the agricultural landscape. What sets this one apart is not anything visible on the ground, but what local tradition says took place inside it.
