Church, Ballynacrusha, Co. Cork

In the townland of Ballynacrusha in County Cork, a church site sits on the archaeological record with almost nothing attached to its name.

It has been noted, classified, and assigned a monument number, yet the details that would normally accompany such a listing, its age, its dedication, the community that built or used it, remain inaccessible for now. That gap in the record is itself a kind of curiosity. Ireland has hundreds of medieval and early Christian church sites, many of them reduced to a grass-covered outline or a scatter of dressed stone in a field, and Ballynacrusha appears to be one of those places waiting for its story to catch up with it.
