Church, Sleenoge, Co. Cork

In the townland of Sleenoge in County Cork stands the remains of a church whose documentary record, for now, amounts to little more than a placeholder.

The site is recorded as a monument, it has been photographed, and it exists in the landscape, but the details that would normally accompany such a listing, the dates, the dedications, the phases of construction or abandonment, remain inaccessible through the usual channels. That gap is itself a kind of fact worth noting. Ireland's archaeological record is vast, and not every site has yet had its story written up in full. Sleenoge is, at this moment, one of those places.
