It is, according to the owner, the last surviving fragment of a date, once reading 1777, that was built into the fabric of the building at the time of its construction. Most buildings lose their founding dates to record books or family memory; this one encoded its age in stone, only to have all but one digit worn or lost away.

The house itself is a T-shaped, two-storey structure, gable-ended on all three arms of its plan, each gable capped with a chimney stack and a pair of small attic lights. The entrance front faces east across five bays, with a central door framed by a rectangular fanlight, its glazing ornately patterned, and flanked by narrow sidelights. A Venetian window, the tripartite form with a tall arched central light and lower flat-headed side openings popular in Georgian domestic architecture, sits centrally on the first floor of the entrance front. The first floor on all sides is finished in weather-slating, a practical measure common to rural Cork houses of the period, where horizontal slates fixed to exterior walls help deflect driving rain. The arrangement of the facade, the fanlight, the Venetian window, the symmetrical bays, points to a builder who was attentive to the fashions of the late eighteenth century, even at this quiet remove from any town.
