In the southern quadrant of a small graveyard in County Wicklow, a low granite boulder lies quietly near St. Kevin's Church of Ireland.
What makes it worth a second look is carved into its eastern face: a Maltese cross in relief, the arms equal and flared, a form associated with early Christian stoneworking in Ireland. That much is clear enough. What is less certain, and more interesting, is what lies beneath it.
