Tree-rings, sometimes called ring plantations, are circular or oval arrangements of trees planted deliberately as ornamental or sheltering features, often associated with designed demesne landscapes of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. They could serve as eye-catchers visible from a country house, as sheltered enclosures for game, or simply as expressions of the Georgian and Victorian taste for ordering the natural world into legible, pleasing shapes.
