Earthwork, Carrowntomush, Co. Galway
Co. Galway |
Ritual/Ceremonial
There is something quietly melancholy about a place that exists primarily as a cartographic memory.
On a low hillock in the farmland of Carrowntomush, north County Galway, a hundred metres or so north of the curiously named Sinking River, there was once an earthwork of some kind, a linear scarp roughly forty metres long, oriented northeast to southwest. By the time anyone thought to look for it on the ground, it was already gone.
