An enclosure, in the archaeological sense, is simply a defined area bounded by a bank, ditch, or wall, and such features turn up across Ireland in many forms, from early medieval farmsteads to prehistoric ritual sites. What makes this particular example worth noting is precisely how little of it can now be known with any certainty.

The site appears on the Ordnance Survey maps of 1841 to 1842, suggesting it was still a legible feature in the landscape at that point, distinct enough for surveyors to record. By the time the later edition was produced in 1914, something had already shifted: the southern to western enclosing bank had been absorbed into a field boundary, folded into the practical geometry of agricultural land and no longer readable as a separate, older structure. That quiet erasure, the repurposing of an ancient earthwork as a modern field bank, is a common fate for sites like this, where the material is useful and the original meaning has long since faded. C. Toal's North Kerry Archaeological Survey, published in 1995, noted the site's location on low-lying boggy ground and flagged that inaccessibility makes any fuller assessment difficult, meaning the shape, date, and original purpose of the enclosure remain genuinely uncertain.
