Enclosure, Arderrawinny, Co. Cork

In a hollow tucked between rocky ridges in the boggy pasture of Arderrawinny, a low earthen bank traces out a roughly rectangular space that most walkers would step over without a second thought.

The bank, less than a metre wide and barely sixty centimetres high, has stones working their way through it at intervals, giving it the look of something that was never quite finished, or perhaps something very old that has spent a long time quietly subsiding. Gorse has crept in to obscure sections of it, and the interior is wet and rush-covered, the ground discouraging any close inspection.
