Enclosure, Ballyseedy, Co. Kerry

Enclosures
Some archaeological sites announce themselves with earthworks, standing stones, or hollows worn into the ground by centuries of weather.
The enclosure at Ballyseedy in County Kerry does none of that. Identified from aerial photography in July 1983, it left no surface trace whatsoever when inspectors went to look for it on the ground. The site exists, in a practical sense, only as a mark on a photograph taken from above, a outline visible to a camera that the landscape itself refuses to confirm.
