What exactly it was remains uncertain, but the 1840 Ordnance Survey six-inch map recorded it clearly enough: a circular enclosure roughly twenty-five metres in diameter, marked with the hachured lines that cartographers used to indicate an earthwork rising above the surrounding ground. Circular enclosures of this kind are a common feature of the Irish landscape, often the remains of a ringfort or cashel, the enclosed farmsteads of early medieval families. This one, on flat ground at the base of a west-facing slope, looked straightforward enough on paper.

When an inspector visited the site in 1998, there was nothing to see. No trace of the enclosure survived at ground level, and, perhaps more puzzling, there was no obvious sign that the land had been reclaimed or significantly altered in the intervening century and a half. Land reclamation, drainage, or deep ploughing might explain the disappearance of a low earthwork, yet none of those processes appeared to have disturbed this particular patch of ground. Whether the original surveyors mapped a feature that was already vestigial in 1840, or whether something more gradual erased it in the decades that followed, is not recorded. The site sits in that quiet category of places known mainly through their absence, documented once and then effectively lost.
