In a field at Carheen in County Galway, on a low rise in ordinary grassland, no earthwork, no wall, no visible trace of any kind remains to suggest that anything ever stood here. And yet the ground was once deliberately shaped, or at least deliberately marked, into a circle roughly twenty-two metres across.
