It measures roughly ten metres northwest to southeast and thirteen metres northeast to southwest, defined by a narrow wall of small loose slabs. The wall is considered apparently modern in construction, which is precisely what makes the site curious: it was mapped in 1840 on the first Ordnance Survey six-inch sheets, indicated there by a solid line, yet when inspected more than a century and a half later the fabric of the structure looked recent. There is also a gap at the northern end of the western wall, though whether this is an original entrance or a later break is not recorded.

The site carries a formal designation as an enclosure, a broad category in Irish archaeological classification that can cover anything from early medieval farming boundaries to ecclesiastical precincts. In this case, the designation seems to raise more questions than it settles. It was listed under that label in the Sites and Monuments Record in 1992 and again in the Record of Monuments and Places in 1996, which gave it protected status and the reference number CL010-062. The 1999 inspection that described the wall as apparently modern leaves open the possibility that the enclosure was rebuilt or consolidated at some point after its first appearance on the Victorian map, or that what the cartographers recorded was itself a relatively recent feature by the standards of the surrounding landscape. Clare's ridge-top and slope topography is well populated with genuine early enclosures, which makes this modest walled rectangle all the harder to place with confidence.
