It is that peculiar modern circumstance, the armchair discovery, that first brought this site to wider attention.

The enclosure measures roughly 35 metres along its north-west to south-east axis and about 30 metres across, placing it in the general range of early medieval enclosures common across Ireland, though no date has been formally assigned to it. Earthwork enclosures of this kind typically survive as low banks or ditches, the remnants of boundaries that once defined a farmstead, a religious precinct, or a place of assembly. Here, traces of an enclosing bank remain legible along the south-east, south-west, and north-west sides. The north-east corner has been partially cut away by a later field boundary running north-west to south-east, a reminder of how successive generations reordered the landscape without much regard for what lay beneath the turf. It was Jean-Charles Caillère who identified the site on Google Earth satellite imagery dated March 2014, and his observation prompted its formal recording. The pastureland setting, to the west of the newly realigned road, has likely helped preserve what survives, since the ground has not been ploughed.
