The site is known solely through aerial photography, specifically a photograph catalogued as GB94.FP.13, in which a cropmark traces the enclosure's outline against the surrounding field. A cropmark forms when buried archaeological features, such as ditches or banks, affect the moisture and nutrients available to crops above them, causing differences in growth and colour that become legible from the air, even when nothing is visible at ground level.

The enclosure appears to be circular, a form commonly associated in Ireland with early medieval settlement, though without excavation its date and function remain unknown. It may represent the buried remains of a ringfort, the most numerous monument type in the Irish countryside, typically consisting of a circular area defined by an earthen bank and ditch and used as a defended farmstead during the early medieval period. What makes the Clintstown example quietly notable is its near-total concealment. Even on satellite imagery, the outline is only faintly discernible, meaning the field gives almost no indication at ground level that anything lies beneath. The site exists, in practical terms, as a shape seen from above, preserved in an archive photograph and just barely legible in a digital image taken from orbit.
