It leaves no trace above ground, no raised bank, no dip in the turf, no scatter of stone. The only evidence of its existence came from the air, in 1973, when an aerial photograph revealed a pear-shaped cropmark roughly 120 metres from north to south and 80 metres from east to west.

Cropmarks form when buried features alter the growth of vegetation above them. Ditches filled with soft sediment encourage deeper root growth and lusher crops; compacted walls or foundations do the opposite. From the ground these differences are invisible, but from altitude, in the right light and at the right time of season, the buried outline of a structure can emerge as a faint patterning across a field. That is how this enclosure came to be known at all. Its pear shape is unusual; most early Irish enclosures tend toward the circular or oval, and the irregular form here may reflect the natural contours of the slope, or something about the function or period of its construction that remains unclear. The site looks out to the south-east toward the Paps of Dana, the twin rounded hills in the Derrynasaggart Mountains that have carried mythological significance in Irish tradition for centuries, associated with the goddess Danu and with the landscape of early Irish religious and ritual life. Whether that alignment was deliberate is an open question.

Because the enclosure is entirely invisible at ground level, there is nothing a visitor would be able to identify standing in the field. It exists, for now, as an outline on a half-century-old photograph and as a shape waiting for further investigation to give it a date, a purpose, and a place in the long human story of this part of Kerry.
