This one at Donaghmore in County Kilkenny does none of those things. It sits in flat, cultivated grassland on a gentle ridge with open views in every direction, and to anyone walking the field it is simply not there. The bank that once defined a roughly rectangular enclosure, measuring around 44 metres on its longer axis and narrowing slightly towards the south, was levelled in 1966. What had been a physical presence in the landscape for an unknown number of centuries was gone within a year of the Beatles releasing Revolver.

What survives exists in two dimensions only. The 25-inch Ordnance Survey map recorded the enclosure before its destruction, showing a form defined by a curving bank at its angles rather than sharp corners, a detail that can suggest early medieval origins in Irish field archaeology, though the notes give no firm dating. More strikingly, the outline has reappeared in satellite imagery, visible from above even though it registers nothing underfoot. This kind of cropmark or soil variation, where buried remains affect how grass or tillage grows above them, is often the only record left when earthworks are removed by ploughing or deliberate levelling. The ridge position, with its wide sightlines, is characteristic of enclosed settlements that once watched over the surrounding countryside from just enough elevation to matter.
