Enclosures
In the townland of Drummod in County Clare, an enclosure sits in the landscape, recorded and mapped but largely unnarrated.
Enclosures of this kind are among the most common yet least understood monument types in the Irish countryside. The term covers a broad range of features, from the circular earthen banks of Early Medieval ringforts, which served as enclosed farmsteads, to earlier prehistoric boundaries whose original purpose remains debated. That Drummod has one on record is clear; what it looks like on the ground, who built it, and when, remains, for now, a matter for further investigation rather than settled summary.
