Enclosures
In the townland of Garraunboy in County Clare, an enclosure sits in the landscape, noted and recorded but not yet fully explained.
Enclosures of this kind are among the most common and least understood monument types in Ireland; a broad category that can cover anything from an early medieval ringfort, a circular earthwork that once surrounded a farmstead, to a later field boundary or a ritual site of much older origin. Without knowing which category this one falls into, it occupies a curious position, present on the archaeological record, mapped and assigned a designation, but still waiting for its details to catch up with it.
