The structure measures roughly 95 metres east to west and 85 metres north to south, making it a substantial feature on the landscape even in its ruined state. The wall itself survives in fragments, ranging from about 40 to 70 centimetres thick and only 20 to 50 centimetres high in places, its preservation varying considerably as the ground rises and the vegetation thickens around it.

What makes this site particularly interesting is the cluster of activity concentrated at its north-eastern corner. Three hut sites adjoin the enclosure from the inside at that corner, while a separate, smaller enclosure abuts the outer face of the north-east wall. Hut sites of this kind are the remains of simple, often circular stone dwellings, typically associated with seasonal farming or pastoral activity in upland areas. Their grouping here, close together and sharing a corner of the main enclosure, suggests a small community using this hillside over an extended period, though the dating of such sites in Kerry is notoriously difficult to pin down without excavation. The enclosure itself, defined by drystone walling rather than an earthen bank, is consistent with a tradition of field and settlement construction found widely across the uplands of south-west Ireland.
