Enclosure, Keeloges Old, Co. Mayo

In the townland of Keeloges Old in County Mayo, there is a recorded archaeological enclosure that has, so far, left almost no public trace beyond its classification.

Enclosures of this kind are among the most common and least understood monument types in the Irish landscape. The term covers a broad range of features, from prehistoric ceremonial ringworks to the enclosed farmsteads of the early medieval period, typically defined by a bank, ditch, or wall that sets a bounded space apart from the surrounding land. What exactly defines this particular example, its age, its form, its condition on the ground, remains formally undocumented in any publicly accessible record.
