Enclosures of this kind are among the most common and least celebrated of Irish archaeological monuments, rings of earthen bank or stone wall that once defined a boundary, whether around a farmstead, a burial ground, or some other activity that left no written trace. They turn up across the country in their thousands, catalogued by number, waiting for the research that would give them a story.
