Enclosures
Some archaeological sites announce themselves with earthworks, tumbled stones, or worn pathways leading to an obvious feature.
This one does not. Set within the southern half of a larger ecclesiastical enclosure at Rath More in County Kerry, a circular enclosure roughly fifteen metres in diameter exists, for all practical purposes, only in a photograph. It has no presence at ground level; there is nothing to see if you stand on the spot. It survives instead as a cropmark, the kind of ghostly outline that appears when buried features affect how grass or grain grows above them, becoming legible only from the air and only under the right conditions of light and drought.
